Hard to Please?

Maybe that means they prefer to receive postcards written in print letters rather than in cursive. Many people who use a different alphabet have difficulty understanding messages written in cursive.

I agree. If they used a translator to write this, it could be a mistranslation. In Czech cursive is literally written (script). It is thanks to this forum that I learned cursive doesn’t mean tilted writing (because that’s what it does in editors) but a “written script”

I have seen profiles politely asking not to use cursive which I totally understand it can be challenging if you are using a translator but thisprofile specifically said not to write in English :woman_shrugging:t2:
I found it weird but I did the best I could.
But it can also be a bad translation as you and @hankadl said… Now their are going to think I am the weird one

My bet is on the bad translation! And yes, if the recipient is using a translation tool they probably won’t have a clue what is going on and think that you are very weird. The joys of cross cultural communication!

My local council writes on social media in Welsh - there was a message today about changes in refuse collection, and the translation turned it to something else completely:
“If your black bags were wasted on the sheets during the week … See your package for more pressers” . And that is with a common script system between the two languages!

One time I got an adress of a postcrosser, who said like: “No double postcards!!” (a postcard they already received) , but has received thousands of cards, impossible to check them all.
I checked the first few pages and tried to find a nice card

In Russian, double postcards are often called greeting cards

Should there really be postcrossers who don’t register a card because of something they dislike? But sure, that reminds me of something. A few weeks ago I received a thick envelope with my tax refund in cash. Because there were no nice stamps on it, I refused to accept it, of course.

I just got this kind of profile that’s asking for only very specific collections of cards (that I don’t have) and says “I won’t be happy with…” (listing what they dislike), I checked their favorites and there is only cards from those specific collections mentioned  It just makes me want to skip to another adress honestly ! Is reporting ok in this situation ?

Just send a card you have and carry on. No need to report and no need to spend too much time for those demanding profiles

Put your energy in those which are worth it.

Well, I think reporting is ok and good in this kind of situation, especially if the “I won’t be happy…” -part is some normal cards.

Reporting will help everyone who get their address after you (and the profile owner, so they will appear not so demanding).

Yes, it is. There are just a few demanding profiles, but they can be very annoying, particularly to newbies and if the staff can help them to make their profile more friendly and less demanding, that would be helpful for the next newbie who pulls their address.

I actually remember getting an address, that I had nothing to send to, and I wrote about it to the Finnish forum. Many members knew this, and told even, this will be nasty if you they don’t like what you send.
I send something, and she complained to me, that their mail was misdelivered, and that my hand writing was too small  I was told, this will be the only time you interact with this person. But no.
I got this person again!
I just sent very basic card, with only happy postcrossing written, with big letters, but this card they liked and wrote a nice happy hurray

I’m still, years after, a little mixed feelings about this experience. If members knew about this, no one complained? Or reported? It was thousands of cards she got.
But also happy, the “angry” person also had the nice side, very easy to please, when they liked the just Happy Postcrossing message.

It didn’t occur for me to report it, because I thought Postcrossing team is not interested, or they are very distant characters somewhere unreachable.

But, of course they want this to be a good experience, so now I feel it’s always best to report if it for me seems clearly against the rules.

To me I just send whatever postcard I have that’s part of the fun of being on this is the mystery of what you will get

This may not be the place to ask, but can you get the same postcrosser more than once?

Yes, if they have multiple accounts.

Here is a discussion about multiple profile postcrossers:

I got weird profile.

She said she loves travel but due to health issue she cant travel too much. She’s lucky to find postcrossing as substitute of travel.

Her wishlist: no tourist card please

Dont you want to travel via postcrossing?

It may be petty, but I’d be tempted to send a boring card on purpose.

I don’t think that it’s weird, probably because I prefer non-tourist cards myself. Getting postcards from all over the world, with the stamps, and messages, and possibly local art, would seem like travelling. If I only wanted to see what places looked like, well, that’s what Google images is for. Or Youtube. Having the physical card that came from another place is like having a little bit of the world in your hand.

Well, for me it is a bit weird - on stamp and message I agree with you, but if I want to travel, then I want to see what the place looks like  Art I can always check out online  Only if I see local views would I feel like I had travelled to that place.

But we are all different and different things are important for us when we travel, so thank you for sharing your perspective, that explains a little bit the profile @yudi mentioned perhaps

Perhaps travel restrictions due to health problems upset her so much that she does not want to receive tourist cards.
I have a similar situation, and although I am not against tourist cards and love postcards with photographs of different countries and interesting places, traveling theme sometimes hurts me, so in direct exchanges, if they ask me what to write, I answer: anything, except your travel stories.
I would really love to see both my country and the whole world, but it’s impossible, and I often feel sad because of this.
