Questions about the forum

Another thing I just found out that may help others. If you’re on a Mac (not sure if it’s the same on other computers), just drag that blue bar up or down and you can move to various posts and dates.

Clicking the title also works and takes you to the beginning.

A post was split to a new topic: Can’t edit profile

In Preferences, then Interface, what does this do?
‘Hide my public profile and presence features’
Does it mean when people click on my user in the forum it shows ‘Hidden’?
Or does it mean that I won’t have the green circle indicating I’m online?
Will I still be in the list of users on the landing page?
Sorry I’m curious what that is

My profile is hidden. Click on my avatar and you will see that you can only see the link to the official website postcrossing profile. My avatar is not among the “Who’s online” on the home page and there should be no green circle indicating whether I am online. However, hidden users still show up in the user stats

4 posts were split to a new topic: How to draft a new topic

Good morning. Not sure if this is the place to ask this question, but I will try and ask for your guidance on this. I am still learning the ins and outs of this new Forum.

I have been running a Free offer on PostCrossing for almost 10 years now. My question is this: is it possible to move that offer from the old Forum to the new one Intact? I looked through the User guide, but didn’t see anything. I’ve included the link below. Thank you for your help…

@Cliffside you cannot really move this Thread over here, but you can open a new Topic in this section

You can copy and paste the text from the old forum (from the normal post, not from the editing page). After that you have to do a little “hauskeeping” because here not all works the same way as in the old forum ( BB code, smilies …)

Can you tell me how to find out the official username of someone whose official username and forum username are different?
I’m in trouble because I can’t read their profiles.

In the new forum the forum username is always the same than the official username. (In the old forum you can see both the old forum name and official name in every post). Here, if you click a person’s avatar and then :postcrossing: -symbol, you will see their postcrossing profile.

I understand. Thank you for your response.

Hello @ginzanow

You can use “the magnifying glass emoticon”

You can write a name / forum name / topic etc. regarding the old forum .

I don’t know where else to put this, so I’ll put it here.
You see that alarm bell on the right, all the time?

For weeks I didn’t click on it, as I was afraid that alarm bells would go off somewhere and I’d get admonished by software (again)! :anguished: Then, eventually, I thought what the heck. So I clicked on it.

Blinks slowly. It leads to an updown menu of following or tracking a thread. That’s useful, wish I’d discovered that earlier. Hope that helps someone else.

Just some observations here…and only that. This new Forum is cumbersome and difficult to work with. Trying to figure out settings is mind-boggling. My eMail address get a lot of superfluous eMails that are a waste of time. The messages I do view as important, where do I print them?? That address I reserve exclusively for Official PostCrossing.

To try and get answers about some issues, you have to gold down the Page Down key to go through a few hundred replies. I have many other gripes, but that will do for now.

Did you read the Forum User Guide? It might help with some of the issues. Sorry for not being able to help any further- difficult while I’m online with my phone only.

Thank you for writing. Yes…I did read the Guide. Helpful here and there, but not much else. I am just so frustrated.

Hello @Cliffside, I think many of us are trying to figure out how to manage the flood of emails from the Forum. If you click on your avatar (top right corner of Forum page) > your username > Preferences, then click on Notifications on the list of sub-files on the left side of the page, you’ll be able to make a start at limiting the kinds of email notifications you get.

To print an important message, you can go to that message and hit Command + P (on a Mac) or Control + P (Windows), or you can go to your browser menu and find the Print command. There’s a more thorough discussion of this here and here.

To go quickly to a specific reply in a topic, you can use the scroll bar to the right of every topic. You can click on the first or last date on the scroll bar, or place your cursor on the active part of the bar and drag it to the reply you’re looking for.

Hope this helps.

I’ve just found something FANTASTICALLY useful.

Have you got the Pinned Topics Blues? Tired of seeing the same topics at the top of the list all the time? Me too. Here’s the good news.

You can Un-Pin them! :man_cartwheeling: :cocktail: :rainbow:

Go to the last post in that thread and you’ll see this.
Screen Shot 2020-12-08 at 16.31.54 Click on that, and you can Un-Pin it. Brilliant.

You don’t even need to go to the last post in the thread. Just click on the little pin beside the title.

Has anyone else had an email, apparently from here, asking for help with a school in Kazakhstan and filling in a survey?
