🎯 Countdown to 70 million registered cards

No no no no no… the 70 million will be hit well before 2023 starts. Don’t forget Christmas and New Year are coming. And don’t forget that the Germans make an extra effort to send many cards during December for the charity hosted by the German Mail - and their mail is fast. So my guess would be

December 24 at 18:40 UTC.

Can you tell me more about this charity effort?

I had wondered about before the new year too. But a lot of people outside Germany slow down or even stop Postcrossing altogether because of the Christmas post. I don’t know if they cancel each other out. We shall find out…

Indeed, we will see, but I cannot see any slowing down in the statistics. Anyway, I am sure that we will see 70 million this year.

@toadallycool have a look, please:

There will be lots of postcards in December in Germany so I think it will be on December 29th 2022, 5pm

It’s nice to see such activity of countdown participants :slight_smile:
We already have 11 predictions:
24.12.22 18:40
29.12.22 17:00
01.01.23 16:00
02.01.23 17:23
03.01.23 18:23
05.01.23 15:30
05.01.23 19:10
06.01.23 06:06
06.01.23 13:06
07.01.23 16:30
10.01.23 20:44

Mean (Average) = 03.01.23 22:46
Median = 05.01.23 15:30
Mode = 04.01.23 13:19

But my experience is that the collective unconscious can be quite easily misled. Therefore, it is better not to focus on all these average indicators.

In the first 24 hours there were 24,233 registered. That just amazes me.
For my next trick…remember to look at the one week mark.

It’s nice to see you all so optimistic - maybe it’s just my aching thumb that makes me more reluctant. Well, we’ll see which factors will dominate, the ypparc ones (wars, unrest, inflation, pandemic, strikes, energy shortage, … ) or the seasonal ones (more northern indoor time, end-of-year-festive-mood, German charity (where users spend thousands of euros to make deutsche post give hundreds (not to mention the extra-burden for postal worker amidst high season) (sorry, I had to)) .)

967,972 to go

As announced in the recent countdown, my guess is personal anyway, I go for

22.01.2023
01:22 UTC

a card from SE to VEn

Taking into account the 12th prediction from Stefan, we have:
Mean (Average) = 05.01.23 10:59
Median = 05.01.23 17:20
Mode = 05.01.23 01:10

That is, the collective unconscious instructs on January 05, 2023.
Let’s see :slight_smile:

100% agree, it is not really reasonable at all…

As I am German, I predict that the 70 millions shall pop up on Friday December 30th.
I participate in a regular prediction game and very rarely predict correctly.
So please dont believe me.

:boom: January 2 2023 03:22 UTC From USA to GER and it will be a Christmas themed card(Santa Claus and the reindeers flying over a chimney). :boom:

My maths says 05 Jan 2023 at about 10pm, but I don’t have any idea how to compensate for the German cards for good causes, the general issues with post as we approach Christmas, and the holiday season. So arbitrarily I am going to add a delay until 06 Jan 2023 at 17:00 UTC.

There were 116,706 at one week (and one hour) with 444 received that hour which has me figuratively biting my fingernails about my guess.

As far as I remember the rules you can adjust your guess… several times even.

Let me remind you that UTC time does not change to winter time.
If you want to know what UTC time it is, just click on this link.

I will assume that this will happen on January 4, 2023 at 18:13 :slightly_smiling_face:
