Just letting all of you know that I have changed my postcrossing settings and am now a German postcrosser. I am moving back to my home country this summer, but have changed my address already now because of the long travelling times from some countries.
Like I said, Iā€™ll still be around for some months and hope to meet many of you at the London meet-up end of April.

Oh Sabine! Weā€™ll be sad to see you go, but wishing you all the best of luck.

Iā€™m also changing countries later this yearā€¦will try and make the London meet-up

Thank you, Alys! I wonā€™t be out of this world. Rather than living in the UK and visiting friends and relatives in Germany, I will in future live over there and come to the UK on a regular basis to catch up with friends here. Itā€™s just a short flight away.
Looking forward to seeing you again in London. I am curious to hear all about your travels.

I know it is early, but do hope Deutsche Post do the Stiftung Lesen thing again this year - and then you can send postcards for that!

ā€¦ Anyone here, ever thought about quitting? I.e taking a very long break, or giving it up for good?

Obviously you are still here, so what convinced you to stay?

Hmm IDK, only been here for 4 yearsā€¦ I should really step back a bit having passed the 2000 mark. Iā€™ve really noticed how cards come in clumps now: my address is only released every two or three weeks in large clusters of 20-30 as if Iā€™d been switched to inactive), and Iā€™m sorry to say that it detracts from the experience. The effect has recently become much more noticeable, so who knows.

But right now I have a collection of definitives to use up

I have thought about stopping as I have already lost some of the enjoyment, even though I only started at the end of January.

A very good friend of mine got me into postcrossing, we both enjoyed talking about it. I learned from her and she found my enthusiasm helpful when she was struggling.

Unfortunately, she has had to leave her home due to the war and fears that her collection of cards and stamps has been lost, she has been an active member for over 10 years and had amassed quite a collection. Postcrossing has helped her through some hard times over the years but, now it upsets her too much to think or talk about it.

I will continue now but donā€™t know for how long.

Hopefully life improves we can both rekindle our shared hobby.

I would have taken a long break from mid-2020 due to planned travels, however along came Covid and Postcrossing was the ideal activity to do at home, get me out of the house for walks to postboxes, and keep me connected with the rest of the world. As such, my output of cards skyrocketed. Iā€™m finding this year though that with more freedom (and confidence) to get out and about that I donā€™t have the time, money, or desire to keep up my streak of 2020/21. With travels planned for later this year, I will be taking an extended break. But I still get that same buzz drawing address today as I did back in 2014 when I joined, so I doubt Iā€™ll be leaving for good any time soon.

Wellā€¦ I lapsed when postage went from 68p up to 87pā€¦ and now look! However, I am still very postal as I write to penfriends (many who are postcrossers, and connected via the old forum). I only joined Postcrossing when I discovered it via many Interpals profiles but wasnā€™t getting letter repliesā€¦ A stop-gap perhaps. Anyway, I think I will try to send on my postcrossing anniversary, and World Postcard Day.

Iā€™ve taken a couple of breaks since joining in 2010, when life has been too busy. A whole two years off on the official site when my daughter was born 2012-2014 (I just had a look at my stats, I didnā€™t think it was that long!) But I was probably still doing some forum swaps during that time.

Iā€™ve definitely been trying to cut down a lot recently because itā€™s just too expensive. But Iā€™m still here and canā€™t imagine giving up completely. I canā€™t help myself buying postcards wherever I go, I must have hundreds here I need to send out at some point! I started working from home during Covid and that hasnā€™t helped, now I can just pick up and write a postcard at any point during the day!

Changing the subject somewhat, I just read about this new exhibition at the Postal Museum, definitely something Iā€™d be interested in:

Iā€™ve only been here since December 2020, I think I did go a bit quiet last year when some of the initial obsession wore off, but I really enjoy writing postcards so I do get a wind every so often and jump on to write a bunch. But yeah havenā€™t thought about giving it up for good. It is an expensive hobby thoughā€¦but then every hobby has equipment needed that often adds up!

But Iā€™m headed to Canada next month for potentially up to two years, and unlikely to have a permanent address during that time as will be bouncing around travelling & working. So will get the most out of ā€˜travel modeā€™ that I can until it stops me!

I have lost my enthusiasm for the official postcrossing cards a bit and had a very long break. Now I only send a couple of official cards each month. I love, love, love the various tags and RRs in the forum though and spend far too much on postage.
Hope you are not quitting, @Maddymail!

I am getting very excited about the postcrossing meet-up end of this month in London!!! Constanze has organised a nice programme for us with a museum visit followed by pub lunch for socialising and card writing. Hope to see all ā€˜oldā€™ acquaintances and meet many new ones :kissing_heart:

Thank you to all that replied above,

I canā€™t see myself going anywhere just yet, for many reasons mentioned above, I havenā€™t had a positive experience recently and the enthusiasm has been curbed.

I do think the tags and Round-Robins have saved me from giving up. So with the recent stamp price-increase, I will be here more in the British Isles Section of the forum.

If I was younger, fitter and didnā€™t have kids to think about, Iā€™d definitely apply! What an amazing experience :penguin:

I actually have a postcard from the Port Lockroy post office, sent by a forum member some years ago who was travelling. Itā€™s one of the favourites in my collection!
