Postcrossing in numbers: 2021 stats

We made a post on the blog with Postcrossing statistics from 2021, where we posted a couple of top 20 rankings.

Naturally, top 20 rankings don’t give a full picture and many members were left wondering where their own countries were in these lists… so we’re publishing the full country lists here both for postcards sent and per capita, as well as a longer list of top senders. Enjoy!

Looking at Guatemala, for example: in Postal Monitor all countries for is are blocked, but still there were 24 cards sent. One user I could quickly find sent 4 cards early last year (to DE, NL,US) … does it mean all countries were blocked later in 2021, or Postal Monitor’s info is not used to give out the codes in Postcrossing?

Not all countries are blocked, for example, Germany and USA aren’t. As far as I know, Guatemala didn’t have a working mail system for several years, so I’m surprised and amazed that it seems like it’s working again, even if it’s just for a few countries.

The mail service in Guatemala may be operating again, or it is possible the cards were mailed from another country if the person is near a border or was visiting another country.

Most were sent from one Hawaiian Postcrosser in travel mode, and a few from residents. Of course we’d had to ask them to be sure. I couldn’t find anything online, maybe someone else has inside info.

So happy to see my country among the top results!

What astonishes me most is the sheer number of cards some postcrossers send in a year! What a dedication! I wonder how they have time, money or interest. Maybe some of the top crossers would like to share their secret?
When it comes to me, I can easily spend over an hour to prepare and write 2-3 cards, so I’d never have enough time. Plus sending a huge amount of cards would take the fun out of postcrossing for me. Last October I sent about 50 cards (postcrossing and non-postcrossing) and it started to feel more like a job, not a hobby.

Hello! Good day.
I share your views, writing too many postcards would be like a full time job, and I myself would not feel that it is a hobby. At times when I write 1-4 cards, I am short of words, what to write to an entirely new person.
