What an interesting post!
Italy use to issue severals stamps depicting monuments in their anniversaries (such as, 900 years from the founding of the building / monument)
A series I liked very much is this one, with 6 of the most famous views of Florence, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome and Venice.
Or, speaking of the very most famous monuments, we have different stamps with the Colosseum
Rialto Bridge in Venice
Mole Antonelliana in Turin
The standard series with 8 squares of 8 main cities

I am kind of confused about why British monarchs are on Canadian stamps. For Australia and New Zealand, I think they still have the queen as the head of the state. Is it the same for Canada?

The British Monarch is still our Head of state and their official title is King/Queen of Canada. the Monarch is also on all our coins and the $20 bill.
