Palm Springs, CA | May 20, 2023 | Meetup in the Desert

:world_map: CITY/REGION: Palm Springs, California (Coachella Valley)
:pushpin: MEETUP PLACE: Palm Springs Public Library (Learning Center), 300 S. Sunrise Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262
:calendar: DATE: May 20, 2023

:page_facing_up: MEETUP PLAN:

Hi everyone!
After some successful Inland Empire meetups in the last 12 months, I thought it would be great to move a little east of our usual hangouts – somewhere a little warmer, but still very fun! Not that you needed another reason to go out to the desert on the weekend anyways.

Why May, you ask? Anyone who lives here in the Coachella Valley will tell you that summer unofficially starts in May – case in point, as I write this, we will see our first 90F day of the year tomorrow and our first 100F day of the year next week! As much as I wanted to do a meetup in April, we have the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals just down the road for the latter part of the month, and I didn’t want to take a chance of getting caught up with the crowds. So May was a compromise between “it’s too hot” and “it’s too crowded.”

4/16/23 UPDATE: We have a venue!! Yay! Big thanks to @geetikasinha7 and @deramirezh for their help in venue vetting and selection. We will be meeting at the Palm Springs Public Library, specifically the Learning Center which is a private room that has been reserved specifically for our use. Please be aware that our reservation is capped to STRICTLY 30 people – any more than that and we run the risk of not being invited to reserve in the future. For that reason, please RSVP in this thread if you haven’t already so that we have an accurate count. Thank you!

I will be collecting $5 at the door for each person who will be joining us for card-signing and related activities. This is to recoup the cost of reserving the room. (I will also my Venmo info in this thread for your convenience. For Zelle, please PM me and I will send you my Zelle contact info.)

If you are bringing a “plus 1” and they are NOT participating in meetup activities, they may join us in the room if our RSVP count indicates that we will have extra chairs. Those actively participating in the meetup (and who have RSVP’d) have priority. Thank you for understanding!

I am excited to share that we commissioned the lovely and talented Geet @geetikasinha7 to design our postcard! She has designed many meetup cards here in California, specifically Pasadena and Pinole. I think you will LOVE her design!

So excited to see you all very soon! As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I hope to see you next month! :palm_tree: :sun_with_face:

Best,
Michael

Thank you for the consideration.
I was wondering why this date sounded so familiar to me.
It’s the same date as the San Diego Meetup.
I’ll be attending that meetup that day.
I’m hoping to be able to make it to one of the So-Cal/Inland Empire meetups sometime. I’ve already missed Ontario and Montclair
Have fun you guys!

Aww, darn! I’m sorry for the schedule conflict. I hope you have an amazing time at the San Diego meetup! And yes, I believe the saying is “fourth time’s the charm” so I hope to see you out in the IE the next time. Thanks for letting us know!

Actually the primary purpose of a Postcrossing meeting is to socialise, make friends and talk about experiences and not necessarily sign any postcards. At the very least the focus shouldn’t be about signing postcards.

@Mundoo

I’ve attended a Postcrossing event hosted by Mike, @llmike007. He has met the criteria of a Postcrossing host. He has been gracious, fun, and generous.

We have formed wonderful Postcrossing friendships in the So Cal bunch while signing cards and chit chatting.

That said, I don’t think Mike is only referring to signing cards as the focus of the meeting.
