Embroidery is not just a decorative element. This is Ukrainian history, mythology, religion and the ancient art of our ancestors. Scientists believe that embroidery encodes the nation’s genetic code. The embroidered shirts, rushnyks (embroidered towels) and head-cloths represent a variety of techniques and colors from different regions of Ukraine.
The Autonomous Republic of Crimea is represented on the postal issue by Crimean Tatar embroidery (women’s head shawl “marama”, mid-nineteenth century), which is made in the traditional technique of tambour embroidery Qasnaq using metallized (gold) and silk threads on homespun. The ornamentation, color combinations and technological methods correspond to the principles of national decorative art and crafts that have been developed since ancient times.

The series of postage stamps “Ukrainian Embroidery – Code of the Nation”, launched in 2018, continues with the issue of a stamp depicting the embroidery of Kharkiv region. The Kharkiv region is represented by a nineteenth-century women’s shirt with a pictorial image of cockerels on the sleeves, a symbol of the sun, light and the awakening of life.

On July, 18, 2024, the USPS will issue the 1-cent Fringed Tulip, 2-cent Daffodils, 3-cent Peonies, 5-cent Red Tulips and 10-cent Poppies and Coneflowers stamps. Available in panes of 20 and coil rolls of 10,000.

These U.N. stamps are sold at unstamps.org or in person at their counter, or UNPA comes to some stamp shows throughout the year.
The U.N. stamps of $ denomination are only valid when sent through the U.N. in NYC. So, you can visit the headquarters in NYC or mail an envelope of cards to them to postmark. Postal restrictions and rates follow the host country. They end up handing their mail to USPS to process.
