If you look at the crimson-velvet-and-gold sofa on which “The Sisters Zenaide and Charlotte Bonaparte” are sitting, you’ll see the gold is actually bees!

Napoleon Bonaparte chose bees (rather than fleur-de-lys) as his insignia. They were all over his coronation robes, and on pretty much everything else!
