Mastodon-Account

Hey …
At least I wasn’t able to find one. How about creating also a @postcrossingproject-Mastodon account on one of the plenty instances?

I’d like it

Mastodon is a new social network that many people are going to due to the changes at twitter

It is named after the elephant type animal :elephant:

Never heard of it…

Does the world need another social network?
We already have instagram, telegram…to say nothing about twitter, facebook…

Like many I dropped my Twitter account but haven’t set up a Mastodon account (although it seems many are migrating that way)
There is a Postcrossing Reddit but it doesn’t get much traffic…

It makes sense: Mastodon as an implementation of the so called Fediverse is creating a decentralized (and hard to censor) environment where communities can meet on their instances and still connect between. So communities or private people are not depending on what shareholders of Twitter or Facebook and <enter_other_fancy_new_network_here> think do and how the company making money out of it.

I don’t use Mastadon or know enough about it to have an opinion about that, but I actually have a similar recommendation: I’d love to see Postcrossing on Pillowfort.social! It’s my favourite social media/blogging site, it was established about five or six years ago (I think?).

I think it’d be great for cross-posting things like stats, links to the census, and blog posts!

Hive is another one some folks have migrated to as well, though it’s having some growing pains. Nice place though. I’m intrigued by something name Pillow Fort

Yes. Too few entities controlling the SM we have.

Can you tell what would the benefits be?
What would you do there? Talk about postcrossing?
Hopefully not another place where some people publish others addresses and messages etc.

In my eyes this forum should be the one place that most easily connects all Postcrossers, but of course another platform could help in getting new members, could it? Or should one know about postcrossing to see the messages etc.?

I agree - I think the forum should be the main or only way for Postcrossers. However, I do think an official Postcrossing presence on other sites might be good advertising - although I know the team is tiny and likely doesn’t have the bodies to run multiple social accounts.

In my small view to the world social media as we know today is mostly a broadcast medium. It’s not designed for real discussion (as the main goal is to gather attention … bad starting point for any discussion), but for short updates … well … broadcasting it is. So in terms of PC it could be “Hey, another blog post”, “We reach 70 Mio cards”, …

Or better, create an instance where lovers of the philately can open accounts to socialise, thus expanding the fediverse.
