Thanks! I won’t tell you how long it took me to find that & I thought I was pretty good on this stuff. But I have it now!
Hello, I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t know what a ‘withdrawn post’ means?
Hi @Inkspell!
It’s not a very intuitive phrasing, it is? Withdrawn in this context just means that the post was removed by the person who posted it. Posts are not immediately deleted in this forum, so there’s a 24 hour gap in which you see that notice.
Maybe the person regretted posting something, or they want to delete it to post again in a slightly different way… The forum is newish, so everyday there are new members making their first post and trying things out.
Thank you @meiadeleite for explaining this to me, I’m wondering if a moderator or admin such as yourself often withdrawn’s a post? Because this was written as a comment on a post that I have written, and I thought I had accidentally withdrawn it but I hadn’t.
It could be nicer to use common words as remove or delete (not withdrawn). There are many many many members in the Forum whose English skills are not so good.
This is true! On the other hand, the forum software (and its error messages) are available in quite a few different languages… so hopefully the people who are not so good with English will configure the forum in a way that is easier for them to navigate.
Hi. How do you edit a post? For example, if you put up an ad and now you need to edit or close it.
There is a little pencil symbol on the bottom right of your post, near the “reply” etc. - you click on that and it takes you to the edit.
Hi! Normally there is a pencil icon and clicking it allows you to edit your post. However, when you are on trust level 1 (basic), you can edit your post only up to 48 hours. When you reach trust level 2 (member), there is no time limit for editing. You will reach that level fairly quickly. If you need someone edit the title of your topic before that (to mark it closed), anyone on trust level 3 (regular) can help you.
Got it. Thanks!
I have never heard about those levels before. How can I know the level of a member? Kanerva, could you please advise me in Finnish. I’m totally out of this discussion.
Ok, I will PM you
New again to Postcrossing and am stuck in the postbot tutorial. To be honest I’m not even sure what I’m asking. It appears that there’s some sort of automated tutorial I need to follow to obtain a badge. I get to a certain point and am stuck. I’d really like to complete this so I can learn more and participate more in the community. Is there any advice anyone can give me on the postbot tutorial? Thank you!
@krispris - I moved your question to this thread as it’s a question related to the forum and not the main site.
The postbot will ask you to do something in each message in the message thread called Greetings. The first one asks you to bookmark the message thread:
Each time you do as the postbot asks/tells you, you will get another message from them. Which messsage are you stucked at?
Thank you so much!
I’ve gotten to the display help command.
The postbot gave instructions on the following:
rolling game die, quote, fortune
When it got to this part about starting the tutorials it stopped responding to my commands.
"start {name-of-tutorial}
Starts an interactive tutorial just for you, in a personal message.
{name-of-tutorial}
can be one of:tutorial, advanced tutorial
."
I may be doing this all wrong, but I do want to learn!
Ah, so you wrote “@postbot display help” to get that message.
So if you write “@postbot start tutorial” or “@postbot start advanced tutorial”, the postbot doesn’t reply?
Hi! To find out what I can do, say @postbot display help
.
There is the text behind the nickname @postbot :
Hi, I’m not a real person. I’m a bot that can teach you about this site. To interact with me, send me a message or mention @discobot anywhere.
There is not any @discopot in the Forum. Have you changed the nickname, dear robot?
Hey, that doesn’t look right. @paulo @meiadeleite Is an you fix that?
Edit to add; Looks like I can’t write anymore!
Indeed, the bot was originally called @discobot and the profile text wasn’t updated. Should be good now — thanks for pointing it out!
