Mail from Germany to Chile can go through China?

Just curious. I live in Chile, and yesterday received a letter from Germany. It has a postmark on the back with indications on how to safely handle the envelope to avoid the spread of coronavirus (that is what a Taiwanese friend told me).

I’m curious, has that happened to you?

And, is there a way to know the international routes mail travels?

I would have never thought a letter could go through China Post en route from Germany to Chile.
